Stitching Nørrebro
Lighting intervention

“Stitching Nørrebro” is a temporary light installation created as part of the Lys under buerne workshop series at Nørrebro Station in Copenhagen, led by Studio Jakob Kvist and organized by Københavns Kommune and Banedanmark. The project explores how light can transform and reactivate neglected urban spaces. The installation was located beneath the railway tracks — an area that for years had functioned as an overlooked gap in the urban fabric of the neighborhood.

The concept of the installation was inspired by the idea of stitching. The crossed luminaires visually resemble stitches that symbolically “close” and heal the urban wound created by the infrastructure above.
By illuminating the space with intersecting lines of light, the project aimed to create a visual metaphor for repair, connection, and gradual healing of neighborhood. Through a minimal intervention using light, the installation reframed the perception of the space, making it safer, more visible, and more inviting for local residents.
The installation remained in place for approximately one month, temporarily transforming the underpass into an activated public space used by the local community.
